Join us for an unforgettable evening in the heart of Downtown Anacortes as we present a special showing of the new major motion picture, âThe Boys in the Boat.â We will celebrate Anacortesâs connection to the true story of the UW rowing team that beat the odds and won gold over the German boat at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. One of the young men on the team was Don Hume, an AHS grad who honed his rowing skills in the Guemes Channel.
The evening will include the UW Rowing historian who consulted on âThe Boys in the Boatâ book, the Hume family, historical context from the Samish Canoe Family, interpretive panels from the Anacortes Museum and more. Youâll share in the pride our community felt for Don and his teammatesâfarmers, ship yard workers, and loggersâback in the day when an American win over a German crew was highly symbolic.
