If you’ve strolled down Commercial Avenue lately, you may have noticed something missing — those old, abandoned newspaper boxes that had been sitting empty for years. Thanks to a recent cleanup effort, our sidewalks look better than ever!

Before-and-after photos tell the story best, but the difference is night and day. Where there used to be rusty, forgotten boxes taking up space, there’s now a clearer, more welcoming streetscape for everyone who lives, works, and plays in downtown Anacortes.
TEAMWORK MAKES IT HAPPEN
We’re especially grateful to the City of Anacortes Public Works Department for their leadership on this project. They reached out to the companies who originally placed the boxes, coordinated the process, and then worked alongside us to remove them. They made sure the job was done right.

WHY IT MATTERS
This cleanup is part of our ongoing commitment to making sure Downtown Anacortes is at its nicest and most well cared for.
Every small step like this adds up to a big difference. Downtown looks cared for, inviting, and ready to shine — and that’s exactly how we want it to feel. A well-kept downtown signals pride in our community and creates a space where residents and visitors alike feel welcome.
Check out the before-and-after shots — we think you’ll agree, the improvement is remarkable!
